Indie Business Owner: Megan Reynolds of Jamila Collective & Fulton + Market

Megan Reynolds is the founder of Jamila Collective, which sells playful ethical jewelry made in San Diego by Syrian refugee women. She is also a co-owner of the Fulton + Market store, opening soon in Escondido at Westfield North County.

Megan on her work at The Jamila Collective:

indieland: What inspired you to start The Jamila Collective?

Megan: I was inspired to start Jamila Collective because I saw a need for the Syrian refugee women I had been volunteering with to find work they could do from home. Volunteering with the Syrian refugees who now call San Diego home has transformed my life and gave the inspiration to have a business that has more purpose.

indieland: What do you love most about what you do?

Megan: I love working with my Syrian refugee makers every week. I am so inspired, energized, and better informed while having conversations with them.

indieland: If you had to describe the Jamila Collective products in three words, what would they be?

Megan: Playful, elegant, versatile.

indieland: Why do you believe it is important for people to shop independent and local this holiday season?

Megan: I think it is so important to shop local this holiday season because independent and local businesses keep most of the money they earn right in their communities.

indieland: Describe what it means to you when someone buys a product from you/your business.

Megan: When someone buys a piece from Jamila Collective, it makes me so happy to know that I'm providing more work for new arrival women who are forging a new life here in a new country. As we say at Jamila Collective, it's about more than pretty jewelry.

Check out jewelry from the Jamila Collective on their website, or if you're in the San Diego area, check out their products at a local retailer.

Megan on Fulton + Market:

indieland: What inspired you to open the Fulton + Market Store?

Megan: My two business partners and I were inspired to start the Fulton + Market Store because we wanted to bring affordable, but amazing quality products to those who crave attainable luxury.

indieland: If you could only use three words to describe your products at Fulton + Market, what would they be?

Megan: Luxurious, quality, buttery.

Browse products from Fulton + Market online, and visit their store when it opens at Westfield North County in Escondido.
