indieland's 30 Days of Christmas - Day 1 - Throwback Song - Chance the Rapper & Jeremih "Joy"

It isn't often that new holiday songs come around that feel like they will stick around for years to come, but "Joy", from Chance the Rapper & Jeremih's "Merry Christmas Lil' Mama" should stand the test of time. Released in 2016, and featured again on 2017's "Merry Christmas Lil' Mama Re-wrapped", "Joy" features both artists at the top of their game, reminiscing on what they are thankful for and enjoying the spoils of Christmas.

But its not just a light hearted little Christmas song - featuring lyrics like "Sometimes I dream of moving a spot where cops carry batons", the two Chicago artists manage to find the perfect balance between soulful, playful, and culturally aware.

Once the gospel choir enters the song after Chance's verse, it is damn near impossible not to feel uplifted and sing along. This song has been a favorite of mine year-round since it first dropped nearly two years ago. I hope that they come back at some point with more holiday songs, because "Merry Christmas Lil' Mama" is an underrated and unique classic.
