Chicago Indie Weekend Guide September 28-30, 2018
Discover and support independent businesses and art in Chicago this weekend!
Venture out this weekend for these events that showcase and support independent businesses and art!
September 29 & 30
It's the last indoor+outdoor Randolph Street Market of the season! Enjoy the lovely fall weather while discovering work and products from 300 vendors. This week's market features the "Editors+Designers Choice For Charity" fundraiser. Local Chicago influencers, tastemakers, designers, bloggers, and editors will be placing ribbons on their favorite pieces and booths. The market is contributing to their charity of choice for participating. So be on the lookout for those ribbons!
Restaurants that Shaped Chicago's Neighborhoods: Chinatown Saturday, September 29, 2 PM - 4 PM
Food writer Jean Iverson showcased 8 local Chicago eateries and how they became staples of the community in her book "Local Flavor: Restaurants that Shaped Chicago Neighborhoods." This weekend, she'll be at the Chinese American Museum of Chicago to talk about the restaurants featured in the book, and in particular, the Wow Kow restaurant in Chinatown, which unfortunately closed in February. This is a book that's definitely on my (rather large) to-read list. It's a great way to hear the stories behind these wonderful establishments, and the impact they had on their neighborhoods. Another bonus to this event? There will be light refreshments highlighting Chinatown's diverse cuisines.
Sunday, September 29, 7 PM - 8 PM
Head to Chicago's Roscoe Village for an end-of-weekend drink and to listen to talented writers read their work at The Reveler Chicago. The Sunday Salon is a curated reading series featuring local and international literary voices, and it's a great way to end your weekend. Local indie bookstore Roscoe Books will also be there selling books.
Enjoy your weekend, and support some indie businesses in the process!
