Chicago Indie Weekend Guide September 14-16, 2018
Discover and support independent businesses and art in Chicago this weekend!
Once again, there are several great events to check out this weekend! September is shaping up to be a great month for supporting independents. So if you're heading out for food, drinks, or shopping, this will help you keep your dollars going toward local communities, small business owners, and other great causes.
Saturday, September 15, 12 PM - 4 PM
Indie Press Fest is part of the Wicker Park Lit Fest and brings together several great midwest indie presses in one place! The event will be held at 826CHI, also the location of the Wicker Park Secret Agent Supply Co. The event is free with a suggested donation of $5. All donations go toward 826CHI's tuition-free literary arts programs, which serve over 3,000 Chicago students annually. Browse and pick up some new books, all while supporting local indie presses and 826CHI. Check out the list of presses on the Facebook event page, which is linked above.
This week, Andersonville is celebrating its Arts Week, and there's plenty of great weekend events to attend. You can see a full schedule on their website. If you want to just go with the flow of the day, you can do a self-guided art walk, stopping in participating businesses that have transformed into pop-up art galleries. There's also a handmade market at the Arts Week Heaquarters (1511 W Berwyn) that features handmade, local products.
September 16, 2018, 12 PM - 1:30 PM
Story Jam is a local live lit/live music performance series that features Chicago area writers and performers. Songs are written for each story told and are played by a 10-piece band! If that doesn't already sound amazing, this event is also held at City Winery, which has some seriously good wine and food. If you haven't been there before, you might be surprised at just how great of an event venue it is for live performances. The acoustics are great and the setup is truly unique. This will be a great way to spend a Sunday morning!
Enjoy your weekend, and support some indie businesses in the process!
