Chicago Indie Weekend Guide, January 11-13, 2019
Discover and support independent and small businesses this weekend!
Welcome to the first Chicago Indie Weekend Guide of 2019! We took a little break last week after our 30 Days of Christmas campaign, but now we're back and ready to deliver even more great content about independent businesses and art in 2019! Below are a few events to check out this weekend that support indies.
Friday, January 11, 5-9 PM
Visit Revival Cafe and Food Hall after work tomorrow to sample brews from Half Acre. Guests can buy a Half Acre beer on draft at the Revival Cafe-Bar to earn a passport, which they can then take through the hall to get samples. Enjoy rounds of Jenga and XL Connect 4 with friends while enjoying your samples!
Friday, January 11, 6-10 PM
Enjoy an evening browsing art in the Pilsen East neighborhood. The Chicago Arts District hosts this event every second Friday, opening the galleries and artists' studios along South Halsted Street. This is a great opportunity to get to know local artists and members of the art community. You can pick up a map at the information center at 1945 S. Halsted St.
Handmade Market Chicago Saturday, January 12, 12-4 PM
Head out to Empty Bottle to visit with more than 30 artists and vendors at Handmade Market Chicago. Here you can find beautiful, unique, and handmade items. The market is free to attend.
Artist Reception with Cynthia Prokop Saturday, January 12, 6-8 PM
Right next door to Empty Bottle is Bite Cafe, a BYOB spot we love. The restaurant showcases the work of local artists on its walls, and Saturday night they will showcase new work from artist Cynthia Prokop. You'll have an opportunity to chat directly with the artist and artwork will be available for purchase off the walls for $40. Of course, the restaurant will be open so you can also try out the food!
"In with the New" Poetry Festival Saturday, January 12, 2 PM
Head out to Winnetka and visit The Book Stall for a celebration of Chicago-area poets! The event is co-sponsored with Underline Poetry, a local non-profit literary arts organization that caters to poetry lovers. Poets will read 3-5 minutes of new poetry at the event, and snacks and drinks will be served. Click the link above to see which poets will be participating.
Enjoy your weekend getting to know some new independent businesses and artists!
