Chicago Indie Weekend Guide, Holiday Edition! Dec 28-30
Discover and support independent and small businesses this holiday season!
Many of you may be looking forward to a 4 day weekend right about now, and even if you aren't, here's a few events happening this weekend that could lift your spirits! Take some time to enjoy these before your New Year's Eve festivities.
Friday, December 28 - Sunday, December 30
Didn't get everything you wanted for the holidays this year? Or maybe missed getting gifts for a few people? Lincoln Park is continuing the holiday shopping festivities beyond Christmas with its Holiday Passport. If you make a purchase at any participating local business, you'll receive a stamp for your passport. At the end of the month (so this weekend), you can submit your passport for a chance to win Lincoln Park Prize Packages. Packages include gift certificates to local bars and shops.
Friday, December 28, 5-7 PM
Not sure which champagne to get for your New Years Party? Visit 57th Street Wines in Hyde Park to sample 10+ sparkling wines--odds are great that you'll find something you like! Plus, they have a great wine and beer selection, so you can pick up something for everyone.
Saturday, December 29, 6:15-8:15 PM
Paint Nite with Cats?! I did not know such a thing existed until today, but it sounds fun! Visit the Windy Kitty Cat Cafe and Lounge in Chicago for a night of painting and a chance to visit with some cute cats. If you've never heard of it before, The Windy Kitty Cat Cafe and Lounge is the first 501(c)(3) kitten nursery in Chicago. You can go there to adopt a kitty companion or just to visit with the cats--a great idea if you can't have a pet at home right now.
The Blackout Diaries Saturday, December 29, 10-11:30 PM
Now moving from a kitty cafe to drinking stories! Weird transition, I know, but could be fun to do both in the same night! Anyway, Blackout Diaries is a comedy show were comedians as well as "regular" people share their true drinking stories. And it doesn't stop there--at this show, the audience can ask questions of the performers to get more details of their story. This show has gained attention from many Chicago papers and has been featured on NPR and Comedy Central, so it is worth adding to your Chicago Bucket List, even if you can't go this weekend.
Gingerbread House Decorating Sunday, December 30, 5-10 PM
End your weekend with a bit more wholesome event! Stop by The Pink Squirrel to decorate your own Gingerbread House. Your ticket includes a pre-built gingerbread house, candy, booth seating, and 2 cocktails. Tickets are $40 per party.
Enjoy your weekend!
