Chicago Indie Weekend Guide August 17 - 19

Updated: Aug 18, 2018

Discover and support independent businesses and art this weekend at these events!

Our Indie Weekend Guide is a snapshot of events that support indie businesses, art, and the local community. If you're heading out for food, drinks, or shopping, this will help you do what you can to keep your dollars going toward local communities and small business owners.

Glenwood Ave Arts Festival

August 17 -19

The Glenwood Avenue Arts Fest features more than 150 artists, open studios, and live entertainment -- and it's free! The festival features art of all disciplines, music, theatre, food, and drinks all on the cobblestone streets of Roger Park's Glenwood Avenue Arts District. This is a great opportunity to shop and discover work from independent artists that you might not discover elsewhere.

11th Annual Oak Park Micro Brew Review

Saturday, August 18 at 3 PM

Spend your Saturday sampling some beers from the Midwest's finest craft breweries! This event features 80+ inventive brews, along with live music and small plates from local restaurants. This is a big event that puts small and local brands front and center. And an added bonus -- it is the largest zero-waste craft beer fest in the Midwest! You're doing good on multiple levels when you attend this event, so go ahead, enjoy another glass of beer....

Late Night Summer Rosé Tasting

Sunday, August 18 at 8 PM

While those who love beer can head out to Oak Park for the Micro Brew Review, wine (and specifically rosé) lovers can head to Roscoe Village for a late night rose tasting at Volo Restaurant Wine Bar. This lovely space is located next door to Moondance, which we recently reviewed. We enjoyed a lovely meal there after the Moondance event in July, and we loved it! (A separate review of our meal and time there is coming soon.) At this event, you'll sample up to eight boutique rosé wines while snacking on late night bites. Space is limited, so register in advance! Tickets are $45.

Enjoy your weekend, and support some indie businesses in the process!

We want to make this feature a regular thing on indieland. So let us know of any upcoming events supporting independents -- send an email to ourindieland@gmail.com.
