Chicago Indie Weekend Guide August 10 - 12

Updated: Aug 17, 2018

Spend some time discovering and celebrating independent businesses and art with our Indie Weekend Guide!

Our Indie Weekend Guide is back! As always, there's a lot of fun stuff happening this weekend, and these happen to be some of the places you can visit, eat at, and shop at -- all while supporting local businesses and the local community!

XO Marshmallow: National S'mores Day

Friday, August 10 + special deals on August 11 & 12

Did you know August 10th is National S'mores Day? I had no idea, but I'm happy to celebrate it. And the place you should definitely celebrate this day at is XO Marshmallow, a marshmallow cafe! They'll be serving up free s'mores mallows, which are vanilla marshmallows dipped in chocolate and topped with graham crackers, with every purchase. The full s'mores you can order off of their cafe menu will be half price all day long, plus they'll be doing giveaways and raffles throughout the day. And if you can't make it there on Friday, don't worry, you won't miss all the fun! You can get 20% your entire online order on Friday, and the half price deal on the classic s'more goes all weekend long.

We've tried XO Marshmallow a few times -- check out our review!

Local Vendor Pop-Up Shop at Be Juice'd

Saturday, August 11 12-4 PM

You can sip on some juice, smoothies, or coffee and browse local products for sale at Be Juice'd on Saturday from 12-4 PM. Vintage Anchor Baby will have vintage wardrobe pieces and Little Buddha handcrafted soaps, candles, lip balm, and artisan crystal jewelry. This is a great opportunity to support multiple indie shops at once.

Author Event: Rochelle Distelheim @ The Book Stall

Sunday, August 12 at 2 PM

Rochelle Distelheim is a 90-year-old Highland Park resident who will be sharing her debut novel, Sadie in Love at The Book Stall in Winnetka. The story is set in 1913 and takes you inside the world of struggling Jewish immigrants in New York City's Lower East Side. The story was previously a musical theater piece called "Love Knots," and ran every weekend for an entire summer to standing room-only audiences at the Piven Theatre in Evanston. Rochelle has an interesting and inspiring story: you can read more about her in the Daily North Shore.

We hope you get out, enjoy your weekend, and support some indie businesses in the process!

We want to make this feature a regular thing on indieland. So let us know of any upcoming events supporting independents -- send an email to ourindieland@gmail.com.
